Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to SmokeAway (“we”, “our”, or “us”). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application (the “App”).

This is the same policy you can read inside the App, under Settings.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we may collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • Authentication credentials (encrypted)
  • A profile photo, only if you choose to add one. Selecting one is the only time the App asks for access to your photo library, and only the single image you pick is uploaded.

2.2 Your Quit-Journey Data

As you use the App, we store the information you record:

  • Craving reports, their timestamps and the triggers you select
  • Outcomes you report (resisted or smoked) and relapse timestamps
  • Notes you write about a craving, and the alternatives and coping strategies you add in your own words
  • Quit pacts you form with a buddy, and the messages you send them through the App
  • App interaction patterns

2.3 AI Coach

If you use the AI Coach, the messages you send it and the recent conversation are sent to OpenAI to generate the reply, together with a summary of your last 30 days of craving activity. That summary states how many cravings you logged, how many you resisted, your most frequent triggers, and the names of the coping alternatives that worked for you — including any you wrote in your own words. Your name, email address and account identifier are not sent.

2.4 Device Information

  • Device type and operating system
  • App version
  • Your device’s time zone, so reminders arrive at the hour you set and a day’s reports are counted against the right day
  • A push notification token, so we can deliver the reminders, weekly insights and buddy alerts you have enabled. It identifies your device and is stored against your account until you turn notifications off.

2.5 Location

We do not collect your location. The App contains no location permission and never asks for one, and we instruct our analytics provider not to derive a country or region from your IP address.

2.6 Subscription Information

  • Whether you have an active subscription and which plan
  • Subscription events such as renewal and expiry

Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment card details.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide and maintain the App
  • Generate personalized insights and pattern analysis
  • Create your weekly AI-powered reports
  • Improve and optimize the App experience
  • Communicate with you about updates and features
  • Deliver the notifications you have enabled
  • Determine whether your subscription gives you access to paid features
  • Ensure the security of your account

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption and security practices. We use Supabase as our backend infrastructure provider, which employs encryption for data in transit, AES-256 encryption for data at rest, row-level security, and regular security audits.

5. Data Sharing

We do NOT sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone.

We do use a small number of service providers to run the App, and they process data only on our instructions and only for the purpose named:

  • Supabase — stores your account and your quit-journey data
  • PostHog— product analytics. While you are signed in, the screens you view and the buttons you tap are linked to your SmokeAway account identifier, so we can understand how the App is used over time. The App never sends PostHog your name or email address, and it clears that link when you sign out. You can opt out of analytics from Settings at any time.
  • RevenueCat and Apple — subscription status and purchase validation
  • Expo — delivery of push notifications
  • OpenAI — generates AI Coach replies from the messages you send the coach

We may share anonymized, aggregated data for research purposes only. We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect our rights.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data
  • Opt out of analytics tracking, from Settings, at any time

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

9. Tracking

SmokeAway does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and shows no App Tracking Transparency prompt. We use no IDFA or any advertising identifier, and we display no third-party advertising.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the “Last Updated” date and, for significant changes, through in-app notifications.
